Crafts Crazy Design Contest May 2014: Rustic Spectrum

Welcome to the first Crafts Crazy design contest! This contest is inspired by the Rustic Spectrum color palette from Design Seeds, which is pictured above.

To enter the contest, you must design and make an original art or craft project inspired by the Rustic Spectrum color palette and use the linkup widget to post a link to your project. The page you link to can be a blog post, Flickr photo, or any other page that shows a photo of the finished project.

You have until 11:55 p.m. Eastern time on May 25th to complete and post your project. That gives me a few days to choose and announce winners before next month’s contest. Yes, this is going to be a monthly event—each month with a different color palette for inspiration.

All crafts and mediums are eligible—beading, crochet, quilting, fine art painting, photography, sculpture, woodworking, whatever! If it’s creative and can be done in color, it qualifies.

Prizes for the Winners!

I have put together prize packs for each of the top three winners. The prizes consist of an assortment of craft supplies that match the Rustic Spectrum theme. Finding prizes in the right colors was harder than I expected, but I did it. All prizes for this month’s contest were purchased by me from Michaels.

First Prize

The first prize winner will receive:

Judging Criteria & Rules

1) Originality: Try doing something new and different! At the very least, if you must use a pattern, modify it to make it your own.

2) Craftsmanship: How well did the artist put the whole thing together? Does the project appear professional or amateurish? Does it have a finished look to it? Are there obvious flaws or mistakes?

3) Use of Palette Colors: The color palette provided is intended to provide inspiration, so the project must use at least some of the hues in the palette.

4) Awesomeness: Does the project “wow” me, or is it just OK? There’s a difference between good and amazing. I’m looking for projects that really stand out.

5) Eligibility: This contest is open to artists and crafters of all ages all over the world. However, if you’re related to me, you’re ineligible (sorry).

6) Only projects originally published between May 1 and May 25, 2014 qualify for this contest.

7) You grant me permission to post photos of your winning project, to use your name in the announcement post, and to link to your winning project on your blog, Flickr, or whatever. All other rights remain yours.

8) The judge’s decision is final. I’m the judge.

The winners will be announced within one week of the end of the contest, and prizes will be sent out within a day or two of the announcement.
